iRec was, at one time, the most popular of all the Screen Recorders in Cydia, downloaded by millions of iOS jailbreakers the world over. Eventually, it came out of Cydia and into the mainstream as a third-party free app but, over time, the developers neglected to keep it updated. As Apple moved the iOS firmware onwards and upwards, iRec fell behind and eventually, people stopped using it, turning to another popular one called AirShou instead. Now iRec has been brought out of retirement, updated with loads more features, support for more iOS devices and firmware versions and, even better, it no longer requires Cydia to work. Read on to find out how to download iRec.

Compatible Devices :
iRec now supports all the following devices on iOS 8 or higher
- iPad Air
- iPad Mini
- iPad Pro
- iPod Touch
How to Download iRec :
Although iRec is a free app and doesn’t need Cydia to work, you still cannot download it from the iOS app store. It is simple enough to do, you just need to download an app installer called Mojo first:
- Download Mojo Installer and follow the instructions in the linked tutorial
- Once Mojo is installed on your device, open it and go to the search facility
- Type in iRec and wait for the search to complete
- Tap the relevant result and let iRec [ext link] download on your device
How to Fix iRec Not Working :
When you download Mojo, any apps that you download through it, including iRec, will crash within a few days. This is down to Apple verifying app certificates and revoking any that they consider invalid, ones that they don’t sign or are not allowed into the app store, for example. When they revoke a certificate, the app will crash and no matter how many times you reinstall it, it will keep happening. You need to download Anti Revoke [ext link], a VPN tool that blocks Apple from accessing the certificates and revoking them and this means you can carry on using them without having to continually reactivate everything you download.
iRec Alternatives :
iRec may be one of the best screen recorders with lots of features but not everyone will get on with it. If you can’t then have a look at these iRec alternatives :
AirShou is a very popular screen recorder and, although it only used to be available in Cydia, now it doesn’t need a jailbreak to work. This is a good thing because not many people are able to use Cydia at the moment and, this way, more of us can use AirShou than ever before and take advantage of the features that include 1080p recording, stereo sound recording and an easy interface that makes recording simple. CoolPixel is also a video editor and offers lots of extra features for editing on screen, including adding subtitles and dubbing just by swiping your finger over the screen, adding rich filters for movie effects and a lot more besides.
